Lighting Exploration

Over the summer we spent dedicated time in the studio focusing on experimental lighting techniques, using bags as our primary subjects. Each bag presented its own combination of texture, form and detail, so our approach was deliberately investigative: we explored different ways of lighting to discover how each method interacted with different materials—leather, woven fabric, metallic finishes, and matte surfaces.

Our aim was to reveal and elevate the character of every piece. For sculpted shapes we emphasised shadow and contour to define silhouette; for textured weaves and grain we tuned lighting to bring out tactile detail without flattening the surface.

The team worked iteratively, making small, intentional changes to uncover the precise combination that best showcased each bag’s unique features. These nuanced experiments helped us create images that communicate material quality, dimensionality and design intent, turning functional objects into visually distinct subjects.
